Los Angeles prosecutors charged Harvey Weinstein with sexually assaulting two women on the eve of the 2013 Oscars just as his jury selection in New York is about to begin.
Harvey Weinstein is now in deeper hot water after his career as one of the most respected and feared executives in Hollywood collapsed following sexual assault and rape accusations from more than 75 women that sparked the #MeToo movement.
Weinstein has been charged with raping a woman in Beverly Hills on 18 February 2013 after pushing his way into her room, then assaulting another woman the next night.
Charges brought up against him include those of forcible rape, forcible oral copulation, sexual penetration by use of force and sexual battery.
Weinstein, who has a history of assaulting several women including celebrities, is planning a $25 million settlement that could settle the majority of his accusations.
Los Angeles County District Attorney, Jacky Lacy said: “We believe the evidence will show that the defendant used his power and influence to gain access to his victims and then commit violent crimes against them, I want to commend the victims who have come forward and bravely recounted what happened to them.
It is my hope that all victims of sexual violence find strength and healing as they move forward.”
Harvey Weinstein’s lawyers have not responded to the new cases.
