Former world best footballer Cristiano Ronaldo, popularly called C Ronaldo by his fans, might have been infected with the novel coronavirus.
The Portuguese international flew down to his hometown to visit his mother, who recently suffered from a stroke, when the news broke that one of of his teammates, Daniele Rugani, has tested positive to the COVID-19. Daniele Rugani is a professional footballer and a fellow teammate of Ronaldo. So, the former world’s best player has to stay put where he is, instead of flying back.
A picture of Ronaldo, Rugani and other team members in their dressing room, celebrating the win against Inter Milan has also surfaced after the player was found to have contacted the virus.
Following the development, Juventus has ordered all their players and coaching staff to self-quarantine.
“Cristiano Ronaldo has not trained and remains in Madeira pending developments related to the current health emergency,” Juventus says in a statement.
Ronaldo is not flying back to Turin and must stay in quarantine in his family home in Madeira, Portugal.
Meanwhile, Daniele Rugani, tweeted early Thursday about his diagnosis. “You will have read the news and that’s why I want to reassure all those who are worrying about me, I’m fine,” he says adding “I urge everyone to respect the rules because this virus makes no distinctions! Let’s do it for ourselves, for our loved ones and for those around us.”
The Coronavirus has been declared a Pandemic by the World Health Organisation (WHO). Over 126,000 positive cases have been reported worldwide with over 4,600 deaths related to the infection. Nigeria has recorded two cases of the virus.
