As he continues to promote his newly released 4th studio album, African Giant, Nigerian internationally recognised artist Burna Boy was a guest of The Daily Show host, Trevor Noah.
The Daily Show is an American late-night talk show that piques on satire and self-deprecatory humour to discuss socially and culturally relevant stories. It is hosted by South Africa’s Trevor Noah, who is a 24-time Primetime Emmys award winner.
On the show, Burna Boy, whose real name is Damini Ogulu, revealed how he first met Trevor and talked about how his name was written in very small fonts on the list of performers during the prelude to Coachella earlier this year.

On Coachella, Burna Boy shares:
“I was on a toilet seat and my mom called me to say you’re doing Coachella and I was like, yeah, that’s nice. So, I get off and go on the gram and then I see the thing and then I’ve seen all the names and then I’m looking for my name but I can’t find my name… I literally can’t find my name. So I’m like am I really performing … what’s going on, but (my mom) was like it’s there… They had to circle it for me… so basically that has never happened to me before, I’m used to being The African Giant.”
Burna Boy reacted the way he knew how by calling out Coachella for the perceived slight. Writing then on social media, the African Giant singer said:
“@coachella I really appreciate you but I don’t appreciate the way my name is written so small in your bill. I am an AFRICAN GIANT and will not be reduced to whatever that tiny writing means. Fix tings quick please.”

On why he reacted the way he did, Burna Boy explains:
“I’m not used to that, so I was like, what’s this? I don’t like this, No. so basically I expressed myself and told them. and it’s just for that, it’s for the fact that everyone that’s coming after me shouldn’t have to go through that … it should be the same with like the Latin artistes and all the international people that were there, you know.”
Trevor Noah then seemed to agree with him, noting: “(It’s only right) That one of the biggest acts in Africa has one of the biggest fonts on the page.”
He also agrees that Burna Boy is a huge act from the most populous black nation on earth (Nigeria) and by extension Africa, given the huge influence Nigeria has on the continent.
Trevor Noah then jokes: “I feel like it was the Nigerian in you kicking in… Nigerians and humility don’t mix. Nigerians are like we kick a**. Nigerians are like the coolest Africans on the continent (Africa).
“I can see a Nigerian saying (mimics the Nigerian accent), ‘Is this my name ehn? Did you run out of ink when you wrote my name? (Laughs)’ I can just picture that.”
As part of his appearance on The Daily Show, Burna Boy performed two songs, Ye and Anybody, off of his African Giant album.
