Note the operational word: almost, not absolute.
We’re talking about the list of the richest folks in the world as per Forbes. The magazine, yesterday, named Amazon’s Jeff Bezos as the richest man on earth in its annual ranking of the world richest people.
Bezos topped the ranking with an estimated wealth of $112b to displace Microsoft’s Bill Gates who headed the list last year. Bill Gates had ceded the top spot for only the sixth time since 1995, according to Forbes.
Forbes said that the rise in Amazon’s share by 59% in 12 months has helped Bezos boost his fortune by $39.2 billion.
Warren Buffet, chairman of Berkshire Hathaway is third on the list with an estimated wealth of $84b. The fourth and 5th positions are respectively taken up by French man Bernard Arnault ( LVMH, $72b) and Mark Zuckerberg (Facebook, $71b).
And if you’re wondering about Nigeria’s own Dangote, he made the list. He’s got the 100 spot having an estimated wealth of $14.1b (cement, sugar, flour). Globacom chairman, Mike Adenuga is the only other Nigerian who made the list, clinching the number 365 position with an estimated wealth of $5.1b (telecommunication, oil).
And if you’re like us and want to know where the US president, Donald Trump fall on the list, then you are in luck. He’s got a nice spot at number 766 having an estimated wealth of $3.1. He might disagree with that assessment though.
Phew! One can only dream of these things but let no one discourage you. Few people on that list was born with money, most started from scratch. You too can make it. It takes well a combination of things, which are beyond the scope of this article.
