Last week, Charts Africa tweeted that Zlatan Ibile’s “Cho Cho” featuring Davido and Mayorkun is the best new song in Africa, and the charts platform is right!.
Despite the online criticism that the song has faced since its release, it got massive airplay to place it at the top of Audiomack’s weekly top ten Nigerian songs chart. Additionally, it debuted at number 16 on the top 20 Afrobeats songs in the UK on Sunday, 2 May 2020.
Here is how the top ten Nigerian songs on Audiomack are ranked after its updated chart on 28 April 2021:
10. Focus – Joeboy
9. Ke Star Remix – Focalistic & Davido ft. Virgo Deep
8. FOR YOU – Teni ft. Davido
7. Are You Sure – Lyta ft. Zinoleesky, Emo Grae & Naira Marley
6. Door – Joeboy ft. Kwesi Arthur
5. 90’s – Seyi Vibez
4. History – Cheque ft. Fireboy DML
3. World – Bella Shmurda
2. COMING – Naira Marley ft. Busiswa

Toppling Naira Marley and Busiswa’s monster hit “COMING” is no easy feat and the collaboration between the three Afrobeats stars deserve some commendation. Its impressive performance of the week is not limited to Audiomack alone.
“Cho Cho” finished second on Boomplay top ten weekly chart, failing to beat “COMING”. Yet, it is another indication that the song was perhaps not as cringey as early listeners judged it to be. Or were listeners expecting a Grammy award type of song and took their disappointment out on the track?
Joeboy also enjoyed a good week, with two of his songs making it to Audiomack and Boomplay’s chart. “Focus” has been the most commercially successful song off his 2021 “Somewhere Between Beauty & Magic” album, but “Door” featuring Ghana’s Kwesi Arthur is joining it. Likely, this success tied to its newly released music video.
Regardless, the singer joins Olamide as the only artist to get two slots on last week’s Boomplay Nigerian music top ten chart. See the complete list below:
10. Triumphant – Olamide ft. Bella Smurda
9. Infinity – Olamide ft. Omah lay
8. Door – Joeboy ft. Kwesi Arthur
7. History – Cheque ft. Fireboy DML
6. Running (To You) – Chike ft. Simi
5. Forgive – Mrolaide
4. Focus – Joeboy
3. Godly – Omah Lay
2. Cho Cho – Zlatan ft. Davido & Mayorkun
1. COMING – Naira Marley ft. Busiswa

It appears that the hype around “Cho Cho” is fading out as Apple Music’s daily chart shows that the song has dropped to number 27 on the platform. By comparison, Marley’s “COMING” still occupies number 3 on the chart.
Also, after spending several months outside the competitive ranking since its debut last year, Wizkid and Tem’s hit song “Essence” has returned to Apple Music chart. The recent buzz around the jam is related to its music video, which has gotten 4 million+ views in just three weeks. However, it will be disrespectful to not acknowledge that it is a timeless piece of beauty.
Blaqbonez’ “Bling” and “Fendi” songs are also on the Apple Music Nigerian top ten chart on Monday, 3 May 2021. Both songs come off his “Sex over Love” album, which is unusually mainstream appealing. Laycon and Mayorkun’s “Verified” track of the latter’s debut “… Shall we begin” album finishes in 6th place.
Meanwhile, “Kilometre” by Burna Boy has been topping the chart since its release on 29 April 2021. The Grammy award winner’s debut song of the year was one of the most highly anticipated songs, and critics are saying he did not disappoint. Below is the complete Apple Music top ten chart for Nigerian songs:
