After getting an apology from rapper Meek Mill, Vanessa Bryant has turned her sights on actress Evan Rachel Wood who called Kobe a rapist a year ago.
On 26 January 2020, shortly after Kobe Bryant died in the helicopter crash, Wood went on Twitter to write; “What has happened is tragic. I am heartbroken for Kobe’s family. He was a sports hero. He was also a rapist. And all of these truths can exist simultaneously.”
However, Vanessa Bryant says she is just learning of the offending tweet. In an Instagram Story post, she called out the actress over her statement. Bryant wrote:
“Your false, insensitive, defamatory and slanderous tweet on 1/26/20 is vile and disturbing, to say the least. [Behaviour] like this is part of the reason why innocent black men go to jail for crimes they didn’t commit. An accusation doesn’t make someone guilty. YOU DON’T KNOW THE FACTS OF THE CASE.”
Evan Rachel Wood had since deactivated her Twitter account in May 2020 but Vanessa is not letting the matter slide. The ‘case’ that the late Basketball legend’s wife is referring to happened back in July 2003.

A 19-year-old Colorado hotel employee had accused Kobe Bryant of raping her and charged him to court. Kobe had denied the accusation saying that they had had a consensual sexual encounter instead.
In September 2004, the charges against the NBA star was dropped because the plaintiff had refused to testify. According to her, she felt unsafe after receiving multiple death threats and her identity being leaked.
However, Kobe issued a public apology to the alleged victim. Part of his statement read;
“Although I truly believe this encounter between us was consensual, I recognize now that she did not and does not view this incident the same way I did. After months of reviewing discovery, listening to her attorney, and even her testimony in person, I now understand how she feels that she did not consent to this encounter.”
In January 2021, Evan Rachel Wood had revealed that popular rock artist Marilyn Manson abused her ‘for years’. This was the first time she was mentioning her abuser’s name after speaking for many years about her domestic violence and rape experience.
Manson denied the accusation but Wood was not alone in coming out. You can get details of the report in this video:
Since Vanessa’s statement, Wood has not issued a response.
