UK announces new COVID-19 lockdown restrictions in England

The UK Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, has put new COVID-19 lockdown restrictions in place in England to keep the new variant of the virus from spreading even further.

On Monday, 4 January 2021, the Prime Minister of the UK, Boris Johnson, said that England is going into another lockdown. He said; “It is clear that we need to do more to bring this new variant under control. That means the government is once again instructing you to stay at home.”

According to Johnson secondary and primary schools will stay closed. This rule only exempts children of key workers and vulnerable children. As a result, summer exams will not go on as planned. Instead, he mentioned that educators will be making alternative arrangements.

Additionally, the authorities advise UK residents to remain indoors as much as possible. However, they can leave home to shop for essentials, exercise, and get medical assistance.

Also, Johnson mentioned that people who need to leave home to escape domestic violence can do so. This is likely due to the Rutgers University research published in September 2020 about how difficult it was for victims of domestic violence to leave during the first COVID-19 lockdown.

Only people who have legal permission to travel for work will be able to fly out of the UK during this lockdown period.

Unlike the 2020 lockdown, elite sporting events like the English Premier League will still go on. Even places of worship will stay open, but attendees have to adhere to social distancing regulations.

Scotland First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon, has also declared a new COVID-19 lockdown that will start on Tuesday, 5 January 2021. Other UK nations like Wales and Northern Ireland are also in lockdown as well.

The UK is going into lockdown because the COVID-19 cases are spiking. UK Chief Medical Officers said that the NHS may be unable to handle the surging cases.

Will other countries around the world go into a lockdown as well? Are you prepared for another COVID-19 lockdown?

Well, those in Nigeria can rest assured that the Federal Government is not announcing a COVID-19 lockdown anytime soon. It explains that the economic and social implications may make it difficult for it to impose another lock-down in the country.

Meanwhile, Lagos State has fixed 18 January for the resumption of schools for the second term of 2020/2021 academic session.

  10. Yet, some people are refusing to take the vaccine, usually those who protest lockdown and will not eat face masks. Cooperate people, so that you can have your old life back.
