According to Tech Crunch, DJ Koh, president of Samsung, South Korea first hinted at the idea to launch a smartphone that can be folded in half in 2016. The model has since been in development with a commercial launch in mind. The company in January this year said it was planning a launch in 2018 but will roll out the device in 2019.
Competitors – Apple, Huawei, and LG Electronics – are also reportedly preparing a foldable smartphone. However, Koh said the unveiling time for Samsung’s foldable phone isn’t far away and that the firm has overcome many obstacles. He also hinted that the foldable phone will be in series.
