Sidomex weekend watchlist: new films and series to watch this week

This watchlist is here to alleviate any anxiety you might have about picking out the best films and series to watch this weekend. As always, our list takes into account people’s varying taste.

If you have the time, you can get started on the new television series on this list. Otherwise, you can see the normal-duration films we have collated. From action to horror and even animation, here is your perfect weekend television and film guide.

1. Wrath of Man

“Sherlock Holmes” director Guy Ritchie and action film actor Jason Statham reconnected for the 2021 American action thriller film “Wrath of Man”. They had both worked together on three films in the past.

This thriller will leave you grasping at straws while trying to figure out the ending until the final reveal comes. It is a crime thriller down to its core with entertaining shooting scenes. It was released in cinemas in several countries, beginning on 22 April 2021, but only got to the United States on 7 May 2021.

2. Blast Beat

Despite premiering at the Sundance Film Festival on 26 January 2020, “Blast Beat” only came to the United States on 21 May 2021 via Vertical Entertainment. You can watch it on-demand via the company’s service.

It stars singer Kali Uchis, Diane Guerrero from “Orange Is the New Black”, Wilmer Valderrama, Daniel Dae Kim, and 

Moisés and Mateo Arias. The film is set in 2000, and it is about metal music and will make you move your feet as you watch.

3. The Dry

Comedian Eric Bana, “Star Wars” star Genevieve O’Reilly, Keir O’Donnell, and John Polson feature in this 2020 Australian mystery drama thriller film directed by Robert Connolly.

The film is based on a book of the same name by Jane Harper and is made available to countries outside Australia by IFC Films. It is also available in cinemas from 21 May 2021. “The Dry” has gotten positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, Metacritic, and The Guardian.

4. Sexify

Netflix has just rolled out a new Polish television series titled “Sexify”. It is rated 18+ because it features nudity, language and other adult content. If you fall in this age bracket, you will definitely enjoy it.

The series premiered on 29 April 2021, and here is one piece of advice; watch it in the original Polish language and follow dialogue via subtitles. The English voiceover sounds unnatural and will turn you off.

5. Senance

Get your weekend horror watch started with this film written and directed by Simon Barett, a huge mumblecore devotee. Barett has worked with Adam Wingard on “A Horrible Way to Die”, “V/H/S”, “V/H/S/2”, “You’re Next”, and “The Guest”.

The film features Suki Waterhouse from “The Divergent series” and “Billionaire Boys Club”. Other cast members include Madisen Beaty from “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood”, Ella-Rae Smith from “Into the Badlands”, and others.

Rituals, violent deaths, and other paranormal activities are recurring parts of “Senance” (2021). You can watch it on RLJE Films.

6. Army of the Dead

Zack Snyder’s long-awaited zombie action thriller has finally dropped, and you can watch it on Netflix. Ever since the first viewing by United States residents, the film has been garnering praise. Seize this weekend to watch it before you start encountering spoilers that will ruin it for you.

7. Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K.

“M.O.D.O.K.” is an American adult animated based on Marvel Comics character MODOK. Patton Oswalt, co-creator of the series with Jordan Blum, stars as the lead character. The series runs as a sitcom and features lots of humour.

It is available for streaming via the Hulu network. The series is set in a period when MODOK has been removed from his company, A.I.M., and he is now trying to deal with his family and mid-life crisis.

Aimee Garcia from “El Chicano”, Ben Schwartz from “Sonic the Hedgehog”, Melissa Fumero from “Brooklyn Nine-Nine”, Wendi McLendon-Covey from “The Goldbergs”, Beck Bennett from “Saturday Night Live” and others star in the series.

8. Four Good Days

Industry-acclaimed director Rodrigo García directed and co-produced this American drama film. It is based on Eli Saslow’s Washington Post article “How’s Amanda? A Story of Truth, Lies and an American Addiction”.

Multiple award-winning actress Glenn Close stars alongside Mila Kunis of “Ted” (2012). It has received mixed reviews, but critics agree that it brings an emotional story to the screens. It features on our weekend watchlist because some of our readers will love this heart-tugging drama. You can watch it on  Vertical Entertainment

9. The Bite/The Second Wave

Celebrity couple Robert and Michelle King co-wrote and co-created this mini-series about the second wave of coronavirus outbreak in New York City. The story follows two women who try to navigate their changing lives in quarantine.

Careers, family and life are put on the line in this dark humour drama which stars Grammy Award-winner Audra McDonald, Taylor Schilling of “Orange Is the New Black”, Steven Pasquale from “American Son”, and others. It is available on Spectrum Originals platform.

10. Here Today

If you are here for the laughs, then this comedy-drama film will fill your weekend with laughter. Billy Crystal, a “Saturday Night Live” cast member, directed this film. Crystal also starred in it along with Grammy Award winner Tiffany Haddish.

There are also cameo appearances from Sharon Stone, Kevin Kline, Barry Levinson, and Bob Costas. You can watch “Here Today” in the cinemas or check the Stage 6 Films website for other options.
