Sidomex weekend watchlist: latest drama, horror and action films showing now

With the last day of the week at hand, we serve you an assorted weekend watchlist of 10 new films that are available almost everywhere. This list contains a variety of genres to cater for your varying tastes.

There are action, comedy, drama, horror, romance and thriller films on this list. Our collection includes films that allow you to get cosy and watch in the comfort of your homes on streaming platforms. And if you want to take a trip to the cinema as well, we got you.

1. Those Who Wish Me Dead

Angelina Jolie stars in this American neo-Western action thriller film directed by Taylor Sheridan. No doubt, you may have been seeing several mentions of it online this week. The film follows a teenager, who befriends Jolie, and they are on the run from assassins. Rotten Tomatoes gives it an average rating of 5.8/10.

It is still showing in cinemas worldwide and also streaming on HBO Max.

2. Oxygen

This is a French film that stars “Now You See Me” and “6 Underground” actress Mélanie Laurent in a race against time (and depleting breathable air) trapped in a medical cryo unit. The Sci-fi thriller takes place mostly in her mind with “Quantum of Solace” villain Mathieu Amalric and award-winning French actor Malik Zidi co-starring.

This film is available on Netflix.

3. Love, Death & Robots

After its successful first season in 2019, Netflix has released Love, Death & Robots Season 2. While it is not technically a film, it takes just as long to finish the entire second season of 17-minutes 8 standalone episodes.

Here is why you will totally enjoy this series if you have never seen it before: it is an animated sci-fi show with adult content. Fans have described it as Black Mirror for video game lovers.

It is strictly streaming on Netflix.

4. Without Remorse

… or Tom Clancy’s Without Remorse. This action thriller film has a lot going for it. First, it is based on a Tom Clancy classic. Then, it stars ladies favourite Michael B. Jordan in all his muscled-up glory as well as “Queen & Slim” actress Jordie Turner-Smith.

It is a film about revenge after a CIA operative loses his family and members of his squad. You can watch it only on Prime Video.

5. Spiral

Here is another film that goes by an alias (Spiral: From the Book of Saw). It is the ninth and final instalment of the popular American horror franchise Saw. Chris Rock and Samuel L. Jackson are in it and this assures viewers that they will get a healthy dose of chuckling out of it while experiencing trembling and rapid heartbeat.

You get a cinema outing if you are to enjoy this film this weekend.

6. The Djinn

This is a supernatural horror film that will keep you on your toes from start to finish. Despite having a cast of not-so-popular actors, it has a 91% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and an average of 6.7 out of 10.

It is available on IFC Films on demand and in cinemas.

Finally, here is one for the comedy romance fans, this film stars Rose Reid in her first major lead role opposite Jedidiah Goodacre (from “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina”), and Katherine McNamara.

It will provide you with something goofy to see this weekend and since it is available only in cinemas, you can take yourself to see it.

9. The Get Together

If you can handle more than one comedy film this weekend, try and see “The Get Together”. It focuses on a group of young adults at a house party which offers them a peek into their future as adults. The film has so many intertwining storylines that begin where one seems to be ending before merging again.

Alejandro Rose-Garcia, also known as musician Shakey Graves, Courtney Parchman (from Comedy Central), and Jacob Artist (from Glee) all star in this drama film. It is available on-demand on Vertical Entertainment.

10. Army of the Dead (15 minutes)

This is likely one of the most anticipated films of 2021. It is equally unbearable that Netflix has released it in some select cinemas in the US on 14 May, while the rest of the world has to wait for its Netflix launch on 21 May.

Well, you can watch the first 15 minutes here. But we can promise that it will make the next seven days seem longer.
