Ellen DeGeneres will end her talk show on its 19th season in 2022, and her reason is to seek new challenges. In addition, she confirmed that the toxic workplace allegations in July 2020 among her employees ‘destroyed’ her.
What started as “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” in 2003 has morphed into one of the most-watched shows in American history. With 171 Daytime Emmy Award nominations (and 61 wins), 17 People’s Choice Awards, and more, the show is highly rated.
No wonder Warner Bros. executives were determined to go above and beyond to keep it running. Including paying her $50 million annually for the show. Yet, DeGeneres says that she is ready to let it all go in search of something new.

“I’m a creative person, and when you’re a creative person you constantly need to be challenged,” the show host told The Hollywood Reporter. “And as great as this show is, and as fun as it is, it’s just not a challenge anymore. I need something new to challenge me.”
She also released an official statement on her Twitter page to confirm the news that has been circulating. Despite her claims of seeking a new hurdle to surmount, social media users allege that there are other reasons why she is ending the show.
Some claim that it is because “Fifty Shades of Grey” actress Dakota Johnson caught DeGeneres on a lie on the show back in 2018. The clip below has been trending because of this.

This seems like a farfetched idea and some others think it has to do with the BuzzFeed News articles of July 2020 which detailed an accusation from a former employee of “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” claiming that the place was toxic to work in. The anonymous ex-worker mentioned harassments, racist comments and microaggressions.

As already mentioned, the host confirmed that the issue really turned her life upside down. She publicly apologised on several occasions for the incident, including on the premiere of the show’s 18th season in September 2020. Additionally, Executive Producers Ed Glavin and Kevin Leman, and co-executive producer Jonathan Norman, all lost their jobs.
Yet, news agencies reported that the show’s ratings continued to drop during that 18th season despite the premiere being the highest-rated in about a decade.
Is Dakota Johnson, the toxic workplace allegations, and/or dropping ratings the reason(s) why “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” is coming to an end? What do you think?
