M.I Abaga released ‘a playlist’ titled “Rendezvous” on 9 February 2018 with the prospect of selling himself to a whole new crowd as he embraced the inspiration of the new era of Nigeria’s hip hop culture.

“Rendezvous” according to the rapper is not an album or a mixtape but rather an organized collection of records, with a clear storyline.

M.I Abaga is no stranger to blazing a trail as the idea at the time was its first in Nigeria, borrowing a leaf from US rapper Drake.

This playlist contains 15 tracks with help from producer GMK, and Odunsi The Engine who also served as a collaborator.

Artists such as AKA and Cassper Nyovest from South Africa featured on “Rendezvous” while Wande Coal, Ajebutter22, Falz, Dice Ailes, and Yung L, and Ghost (of SDC) from Nigeria made up the remaining features on the project.

One could easily tell with the choice of supporting cast on the project that it comes from a place trying to embrace the new wave in order to push a different sound. This can be seen as artists such as Nonso Amadi, Tomi Thomas, Santi, Moelogo, Odunsi (The Engine), Terry Apala, Straffiti, Blaqbonez, Yung L, U.ax, and Trigga Madtonic were called up to feature.
