Tottenham have finally signed a striker, like Jose Mourinho has been confidently saying they would, from Benfica on a season-long loan from Benfica. Brazilian Carlos Vinicius will join Spurs on a season-long loan with an option to join permanently for around £36m.
Vinicius moved to Benfica from Napoli for £15m last summer and will provide additional firepower for Jose Mourinho, who now has a back-up for Harry Kane.
The 25-year-old, who has had previous loan spells with Monaco and the Portuguese side Rio Ave last season before his move to Benfica, managed 24 goals in all competitions last season and was linked with a host of Europe’s biggest clubs – including Juventus and Inter Milan.
He featured five times for Benfica in the Champions League scoring in a 2-2 draw at RB Leipzig and also helped Benfica win the Portuguese Super Cup.
Vinicius who will adorn the No 45 shirt now becomes Spurs’ sixth signing of the transfer window, after Sergio Reguilon, Matt Doherty, Joe Hart, and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg joined on permanent deals, with Gareth Bale coming back to Tottenham on a season-long loan.

Rhian Brewster leaves Liverpool for Sheffield United in a £23.5m deal
Rhian Brewster has completed a deal worth up to £23.5m to Sheffield United from Liverpool as the summer transfer window winds up.
Liverpool, however, will retain a 15 percent sell-on clause for the 20-year-old and a buy-back clause that is valid for the next three years.
Brewster finalised terms and had a medical in Yorkshire on Friday ahead of signing for Chris Wilder’s side.
“It feels good to be here and I just can’t wait to get started to be honest. There were a few teams who came in but right now Sheffield United is the best option for me,” Brewster told the club’s website.
“Looking at the club, it is on the rise, finishing ninth last year and hopefully it can be better this season. Maybe I can add some goals, I’ll work hard and try and help the team to a higher place this year.
“It was good for me (last season at Swansea). I felt I needed game time, and I scored 11 goals in 22 which was great for me. I am not going to dwell on that though, this is a new season, and I want to come in here and show what I can do, and score goals for Sheffield United.
“I am ready to come in and show everyone what I’ve got. It is a team that creates a lot of chances, the three at the back, overlapping, they get crosses into the box and that’s my game – being in the box, finding space, and one and two touch finishes. That’s what I am going to try and do, and try and score goals for Sheffield United.”
Sheffield United are yet to score in the Premier League after their opening three games of the season, hopefully, Brewster who managed 10 goals in a six-month loan spell at Swansea in the second part of last season can help in that department.
He returned in the summer to make a substitute appearance in Liverpool’s Community Shield defeat to Arsenal and missed the crucial penalty in the shootout.
Bayern return for Callum Hudson-Odoi
Bayern Munich who are long-time admirers of Callum Hudson-Odoi is in talks with Chelsea over a deal to sign the winger on a season-long loan, according to reports in Germany.
The offer on the table is believed to be a loan plus an obligation to buy Hudson-Odoi on a permanent deal in summer 2021.
Reports favour the completion of a deal for the England U21 international winger by the 5 October transfer deadline, following a breakthrough in talks between the two clubs.
Hudson-Odoi featured for Chelsea in their defeat to Tottenham on penalties in the Carabao Cup earlier this week, and has made four appearances in all competitions so far this term.
He also scored in Chelsea’s 3-3 draw with West Brom on 26 September.
The Bavarian club made the winger a key target during the January transfer window last year when they offered Chelsea £30m for his services and rejected a fourth bid worth around £22.5m in summer 2019.
Following the arrivals of Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, and Kai Havertz at Stamford Bridge during the summer window, competition for attacking places in Lampard’s starting XI is fierce this season.
Meanwhile, Bayern, who signed Leroy Sane for £54.8m from Manchester City earlier in the summer, and are in the market for another player who can play out wide.
