Liverpool missed the chance to grab all three points away from home on Saturday as a controversial loss time penalty handed to Pascal Gross gave Brighton a 1-1 draw against the defending champions.
Andrew Robertson was the culprit who was found to have kicked the foot of Danny Welbeck in the box with the game at 1-0 heading into stoppage time.
Referee Stuart Attwell awarded a spot-kick having gone over to the pitchside monitor to review the incident and Gross was happy to convert and win his side a precious point.
Neal Maupay had earlier flashed a penalty wide after Neco Williams brought down Aaron Connolly but it appeared Diogo Jota had given Liverpool the victory with his eighth strike in eight Liverpool games.
However, a late penalty saved the day for the hosts as the points were shared at the Amex Stadium.
This result also means Liverpool can reclaim the top spot on the standings for at least 24 hours, one point ahead of Tottenham and three ahead of Chelsea who face off on Super Sunday. Brighton sit 16th with 10 points from 10 games.
