FIFA announces nominees for The Best Awards 2020

Five Premier League stars – including four from Liverpool – have been nominated for the men’s prize in this year’s Best FIFA Football Awards.

Kevin de Bruyne (Manchester City) joined Liverpool’s contingent of Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Thiago Alcantara in the men’s shortlist, while England’s Lucy Bronze is one of eleven players in the running for the women’s award.

The men’s manager shortlist sees Leeds United manager, Marcelo Bielsa, is joined by Bayern Munich’s Hansi Flick and Premier League counterpart Jurgen Klopp, amongst others.

Chelsea’s Emma Hayes is also in contention for the women’s manager award, joined by Netherlands National team manager, Sarina Wiegman, who will take over as England head coach in September 2021.

FIFA uses a “combined voting process involving the captains and head coaches of all national teams around the globe, an online ballot of fans and submissions from a select group of more than 200 media representatives” to declare its winners.

Voting commences on 25 November 2020 and will be on until 9 December 2020, with a final ceremony on 17 December to announce the results.

Tottenham Hotspur is not left out as Son Heung-Min’s solo effort against Burnley in the Premier League last season has been nominated by FIFA for the Puskas Award.
