Everton 4-2 Brighton: The Toffees fine run of form continues; Newcastle defeats Burnley

Everton enjoyed their best-ever start to a Premier League season with a 4-2 win over Brighton & Hove Albion, inspired by James Rodriguez.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin continued his impressive goal-scoring form to put Everton ahead on 16 minutes, heading in Gylfi Sigurdsson’s cross at the far post. He becomes the first Toffees player to score in their four opening Premier League matches.

Brighton, however, equalised four minutes before half-time through Neal Maupay after another howler from Jordan Pickford. But Yerry Mina scored Everton’s second to restore the lead before the break, heading in Rodriguez’s free-kick.

Rodriguez then came from the dugout a new beast, converting twice at the far post from a left-wing cross to put the match beyond Brighton.

Brighton, however, got a late consolation courtesy of a wonder volley from Yves Bissouma.

Everton remains top of the Premier League Standings after claiming four wins from their opening four Premier League matches for the first time.

Newcastle 3-1 Burnley: Sloppy Clarets pay dearly at St. James Park

Allan Saint-Maximin led Newcastle to their second win of the season with a sublime attacking masterclass as they beat Burnley 3-1 at St. James Park.

Premier League Matchday 4

The French winger was in quite a mood and opened the Magpies account in the 14th minute with a fine individual effort before setting up Callum Wilson for the first of his two goals after Ashley Westwood had levelled for Burnley.

Burnley’s goalkeeper Nick Pope made an uncharacteristic error which allowed Ryan Fraser to win a spot-kick allowing Wilson to score his second goal in the match to wrap up the points for Newcastle United.

Steve Bruce’s side are now in the top six, while Sean Dyche’s men have started a season with three straight defeats for the first time in the top flight since 1927.

  5. What a fine form Everton are this season. If they continue like this, they’re gonna win the league; and I don’t mind them winning it.
