Liverpool are set to miss seven first-teamers when they play against Leicester as forward Mohamed Salah was confirmed to have tested positive for Covid-19 by the Egyptian FA.
The Egyptian FA tweeted a post confirming that Mo Salah had returned a positive test and that he was asymptomatic.
The governing body also added that negative results were returned for the rest of the Egypt team as Salah is now self-isolating and will be “subject to more checks in the coming hours.”
Egypt will entertain the Togolese National team on Saturday in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier before playing the reverse fixture on Tuesday.
However, Liverpool is due to face Leicester on 22 November 2020 and their inspirational forward Salah would miss the match under current UK Government guidelines despite being asymptomatic.
The government website states: “If you do not have symptoms but have tested positive for COVID-19, stay at home and self-isolate for 10 days from the day the test was taken.”
Salah would also be a doubt for Liverpool’s home fixture against Atalanta in the Champions League on November 25 given that he will be unable to train with his club team-mates.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp would feel the walls closing in with defender Joe Gomez also adding to the injury woes for the Reds while on International duty with England after what sustaining what is considered to be a long-term injury.
Liverpool, however, are hopeful the England international will return before the end of the season.
England International Trent Alexander-Arnold is also ruled out of the Leicester match with a muscle injury, while Virgil van Dijk is out for the season after requiring knee surgery following a collision with Jordan Pickford in the Merseyside derby.
Salah is also the fourth Liverpool first-team player to test positive for coronavirus this season, following Thiago in September and then Sadio Mane and Xherdan Shaqiri in October.
