Diego Maradona‘s doctor has claimed he is likely to be discharged from hospital “tomorrow or the next day” after successful brain surgery, and for the fact that the Argentine legend is recovering well.
Dr. Leopoldo Luque, Maradona’s neurosurgeon, is optimistic about the possibility of discharging the former Barcelona, Napoli and Boca Juniors’ player in the coming days after having successful surgery on a subdural hematoma – an accumulation of blood between a membrane and his brain.
“Diego wants to go home and we are evaluating his discharge,” said Luque.
“We’ll talk about where he goes later but for now we know that Diego is doing very well.”
Maradona, one of the greatest players of all time, was admitted to the Ipensa Clinic in La Plata, Argentina on November 2, after he was discovered to be suffering from anaemia and dehydration.
Maradona was then moved to the Olivos Clinic in Buenos Aries to undergo surgery the following day.
Luque, Maradona’s doctor established that the ex-footballer had sustained “no neurological damage” during the operation and claimed he was “amazed by his recovery“.
Maradona suffered from withdrawal symptoms caused by alcohol dependency and it halted his discharge from the hospital last Friday as he had to be kept in over the weekend.
The World Cup winner with Argentina in 1986 has served frequent periods in hospital over the years, credited to the lifestyle that accompanied and followed his playing career.
