See why John Boyega is pulling out of upcoming Netflix film

Netflix confirms that John Boyega has now departed from the upcoming movie, “Rebel Ridge”.

The film, which commenced production last month after having been suspended for over a year due to the pandemic, has now hit yet another obstacle. As first reported by Deadline, Boyega’s withdrawal from the project is due to family reasons.

A statement by a Netflix spokesperson reads, “Rebel Ridge is pausing temporarily as we look to re-cast John Boyega who needed to leave the project for family reasons.”

“We remain committed to Jeremy Saulnier’s extraordinary film and look forward to resuming production. We look forward to continuing our partnership with John Boyega’s UpperRoom Productions, in addition to our upcoming film, They Cloned Tyrone in which he also stars,” the statement continued.

According to Variety, the film is a high-velocity thriller that explores systemic American injustices through intense action sequences, suspense and dark humour. It stars other actors like James Cromwell, Don Johnson, AnnaSophia Robb, and Emily Cohen, and is being directed by Saulnier.

The film is now on hold as efforts to recast for the role are in full swing. At the time of this report, nothing has been heard from Boyega’s representatives. Whatever it is, it is the hope of his fans that the ‘family reason’ is not anything serious or troubling.
