Sonya Curry and Dell Curry, parents of NBA star Steph Curry, announced their divorce after a marriage of 30+ years, what went wrong?
Sonya Curry and Dell Curry first met at Virginia Tech University and went on to get married in 1988, and they gave birth to NBA stars Steph and Seth and daughter Sydel.
Speaking with PEOPLE, the NBA stars parents confirmed the heartbreaking news. “After exploring a trial separation over the past year and much thoughtful consideration, we have decided to end our marriage. As this comes with a great deal of sadness, our focus and desire [are] for our family’s continued happiness.
“We are so thankful for all the many blessings and successes! We stay committed to and supportive of our children and grandchildren and will remain on connected paths. We ask that our privacy be respected and prayer for our family as we move forward.”
For now, there is no verified account as to what caused their divorce. Yet, there are several theories as to the reason for the split. Respectfully, we will not dignify any of them by mentioning them here until the parties involved confirm or deny them.
Sonya and Dell Curry are the proud grandparents of many youngsters. Steph, 33, and his wife Ayesha married in 2011, and they share three children – daughters Riley (aged 9) and Ryan (aged 6) and son Canon (aged 3).

Meanwhile, Steph’s younger brother, 31-year-old Seth, has a daughter named Carter with his wife Callie, and Sydel, 26, is expecting her very first baby with her NBA husband, Damion Lee.
The news of their divorce, which first broke on the Internet courtesy of TMZ, came on the same day that Seth celebrated his birthday. Steph Curry went on to celebrate his brother’s birthday, with an Instagram snapshot of both of them laughing in a changing room.
He captioned the post: “Happy Born day to my guy @sdotcurry. He’s one of them ones…amazing to see the way you do it for you and yours! Love you bro #31 #reggieyear.“
