George Clooney confirms giving 14 friends $1 million cash gifts

American actor, George Clooney, has revealed that he once gave 14 of his closest friends $1 million dollar each, confirming a three-year-old rumour to be true.

In an all-telling interview with international monthly men’s magazine, GQ, George Clooney revealed more than a handful of secrets and confirmed several rumours too.

One of them is the story that he had once given 14 of his friends cash gifts that amounted to a million dollars apiece. Rande Gerber, one of the close friends of the actor had told MSNBC in 2017 about the incident but Clooney never confirmed it until now.

In his interview with Zach Baron of GQ, the award winning actor, director and producer said that it had happened just before the 2013 film titled Gravity was released released. Gravity is a space-themed thriller film.

George Clooney said that he had been paid percentages of the film as an alternative of a salary. CNN explains that the film had not been expected to be a hit, but then it became just that.

Thus, Clooney who had been single at the time had more than enough money on him. To surprise his friends; he drove an old van to a warehouse in downtown Los Angeles and filled luggage with $14 million then he called his friends over to his home.

Explaining why he had given his friends the money, the actor said; “you know, without them I don’t have any of this. And we’re all really close, and I just thought, basically, if I get hit by a bus, they’re all in the will. So why the f**k am I waiting to get hit by a bus?”

Before handing his 14 friends $1 million each, George Clooney claims; “I just held up a map and I just pointed to all the places I got to go in the world and all the things I’ve gotten to see because of them. And I said, ‘How do you repay people like that?’ And I said, ‘Oh, well: How about a million bucks?’”

To get a sense of what kind of daring person George Clooney his in private, Business Insider also reports that he once bet Brad Pitt and Don Cheadle $10,000 to spend the night in a haunted house on Lake Como, but they couldn’t do it. It even gets crazier when he revealed that he had gotten an Italian friend, Giovanni to pretend reading a story about a man who used to kill people in the now-abandoned house and then throw them into the lake.

It appears that those days of daring and spending are behind the actor now. George Clooney is now married to British-Lebanese human rights lawyer Amal Clooney and they have twin children; Ella and Alexander.

Clooney is most popular for his Danny Ocean character in the Ocean’s film series and several other films. He has also been nominated for Academy Awards in six different categories; a record he shares with Walt Disney and Alfonso Cuarón.
