The actor was reportedly rushed to the hospital on Saturday after complaining of breathlessness. Shortly after he got to the hospital, he was tested for COVID-19, which came out negative.
However, after his symptoms persisted and he developed fluid in his chest, a cancer test was run which reportedly came back positive.
“When he was taken to the hospital, he was low on oxygen saturation. But when his Covid-19 report came negative, he run cancer analysis and it came positive,” A source at the hospital told Hindustan Times.
On Tuesday, the star released a statement that he would be taking a break for medical treatment. He wrote: “Hi friends, I am taking a short break from work for some medical treatment. My family and friends are with me and I urge my well-wishers not to worry or unnecessarily speculate. With your love and good wishes, I will be back soon!”
The 61-year-old actor, nicknamed Deadly Dutt, has served time in prison for being in possession of guns supplied by gangsters responsible for bombings in Mumbai in 1993. He has also battled drug addiction.
Dutt became famous fame in the mid-1980s following a number of action movies in which he performed his own stunts, and this is what earned him his nickname.
However, the star was also struggling with substance abuse, including h----n and cocaine, that was said to have been sparked by the pain of losing his mother, Indian screen icon Nargis Dutt, to cancer.
