HBO green lights Game Of Thrones prequel, ‘House of the dragon’

For months, the public has been waiting for news about the much talked about Game of Thrones Targaryen prequel.

The show has now been greenlit by HBO. Officially titled ‘House of the Dragon,’ the show has been ordered by HBO as a straight to series show.

‘House of the Dragon’ is based on George R.R. Martins’ book, Fire and Blood, and follows the Targaryens through a civil war. Emilia Clarke earned four Emmy nominations this year for portraying Daenerys Targaryen.

It is set three hundred years before the events of Game of Thrones.

The series was written by Ryan Condal and will be co-executive produced by George R.R Martin.

“The Game of Thrones universe is so rich with stories,” said HBO programming president Casey Bloys, according to Hollywood Reporter. “We look forward to exploring the origins of House Targaryen and the earlier days of Westeros along with Miguel, Ryan, and George.”

Former showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss will not be involved in this show as the duo left following the eighth season of Game of Thrones.

Instead, Miguel Sapochnik, who won an Emmy for directing the ‘Battle of the Bastards’ episode will direct the pilot of House of the Dragon, along with additional episodes.
