Nigerians all over the world are showing their support for Afrobeat superstar Burna Boy ahead of the 2021 Grammys today, 14 March.
While the singer, whose real name is Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, is no stranger to online and offline controversies — people are setting aside their dislike for him today to cheer him on as he aims for a Grammy Award win under the World Music Album category.
Last year, the singer’s “African Giant” album had failed to clinch the award after being nominated as Angélique Kidjo’s “Celia” beat it. This time, his album “Twice As Tall” is in the running against other entertainers like Antibalas, Bebel Gilberto, Anoushka Shankar and Tianariwen.

With over 16K tweets and counting about him, he is no doubt going to top the trend table in Nigeria before the 63rd Grammy Awards show kicks off. He is also one of the performers at the show’s premiere.
Trevor Noah will host the award at the Los Angeles Convention Center, Los Angeles. Beyoncé received the most nominations of the night with nine, followed by Dua Lipa, Roddy Ricch, and Taylor Swift with six each.
Burna Boy is not the only Nigerian artist with a Grammys win in sight today as fellow superstar Wizkid is also nominated in the Music video/film category for “Brown Skin Girl” along with Beyoncé, Saint Jhn and Blue Ivy Carter.
