A woman identified as Opal Brown was sentenced to 120 days in jail and 3 years probation for pouring urine in the face of a bus operator.
The woman had been arrested earlier in October after she was convicted in August and failed to show up for one hearing after she was first charged and granted bail.
The incident had occurred in the middle of August as shown on the surveillance camera; Brown was getting off the bus when the driver who had just spent a month on the job bade her farewell by saying ‘have a nice day’. She misinterpreted the greeting as being sarcastic and threw the tumbler full of her urine in the driver’s face. She had earlier relieved herself in the tumbler inside the bus.
Although Brown pleaded guilty, she said the camera failed to show what she claimed to be at least 30 minutes of argument.
In reading her judgment, the judge pointed out that Opal seemed remorseless after the action as her Facebook posts after the incident which went viral in the media shows.
The case received praise from the Union of Metro bus drivers and shows that the system values them.
