The Chief of Army Staff Lt-Gen. Tukur Burattai raised alarm on the problems that unregistered sim cards and wrongly registered ones have been causing problems for the army in their fight to control criminal activities within the country.
On Sunday, a similar issue have been raised by the Nigerian Communications Commission during their meeting with network operators on Sunday. A decision was reached to stop the improper registrations of sims as they set up a team that consists of representatives of the operators to look into the issue and give feedback and propose solutions within six weeks.
Lt-Gen. Burattai, while presenting a paper entitled Digital, Mobile and Computer Forensics as a Tool in Fighting Terrorism and Internal Threats, at the 6th International Digital Mobile and Computer Forensics Conference and training expo, DIGIFOR2017 in Abuja, had called on relevant authorities to revisit the issue of unregistered SIM cards and find a lasting solution due to the inherent dangers it portend to the security of the country. The army gave the news along with information that they were making progress in using forensics to catch armed robbers, kidnappers and terrorists.
