“As a man, you need to beat your wife” – Ugandan MP, Onesimus Twinamasiko.
Following comments by the Ugandan president, Museveni, that men who beat women are cowards and should face the full wrath of the law, a Ugandan MP Onesimus Twinamasiko, has said on television channel NTV that can actually physically hit their significant others.
He says: “as a man, you need to discipline your wife. You need to touch her a bit, you tackle her, beat her somehow to really streamline her.”
Hogwash we say. Arrant nonsense (in the voice of Prof John Bull).
Mr Twinamasiko sounds like he’s a h--o sapiens in appearance but actually possessing a Neanderthal mindset. Due apologies to the Neanderthals as there’s actually no evidence that they physically assaulted their women but I hope you get my meaning? The MP actually thinks he’s still in living the pre-stone age. Maybe his constituency would take note and start the process for his recall.
Not surprisingly, his words have been met with strong criticisms from social media users and he has been to apologise to victims of domestic violence for his insensitive and provocative statements.
A leading women’s rights group in Uganda says he should seek therapy. And that is so on point.
