Recalling the sad event that saw people killed in similar incident back in April at a viewing centre in the same city. The Southern City News reported the incident.
According to them, the witnesses said that the electrical company in charge of distributing power and also solving electrical malfunctioning issues in the area (PHED) had kept trying to fix a loose cable for some time before the tragedy struck. It had happened unexpectedly as the cable cut loose and dropped on the building, setting it on fire immediately and the two people who died (a lady named Rebecca and a young engineering student named David) had tried escaping but stepped on the cable.
Residents said that the disaster caused by the fire would have been reduced because the Fire Service was contacted but on getting to the location they had no water to quench the fire with.
Properties were destroyed in the fire as a man who owned a Pharmacy attached to the buildings mentioned the expensive drugs he had just stocked that the fire had destroyed.
The Chief executive officer of PHED Mr. Achife send the bereaved messages of condolence through the Mr. Onyi the Manager of Coporate Communications of the PHED, and also advised people to adhere to instructions about the high tension cables given by the PHED after assuring the community that the cables have been removed.
