Femi Fani-Kayode has spoken out about the prosecution and conviction of Nollywood actress Funke Akindele and her husband, Abdul Rasheed Bello, popularly known as JJC Skillz, calling it overbearing and unnecessary.
David Oluwafemi Adewunmi Abdulateef Fani-Kayode is a Nigerian politician, essayist, poet and lawyer and member of the People’s Democratic Party [PDP] and also a former aviation minister of Nigeria.
The Lagos State Police Command had arrested Funke Akindele and hubby, JJC Skillz, over hosting a house party on Saturday 4th April 2020 irrespective of the lockdown order in Lagos and the duo was arraigned to court and have now been sentenced.
The presiding judge at the Ogba Magistrate Court, Ikeja, Lagos, handed them 14 days of community service and a fine. The sentencing was handed on Monday 6 April 2020.
Femi Fani Kayode took to his Twitter handle to react to the sentence, writing: “The prosecution & conviction of Funke Akindele was overbearing & unnecessary. A warning would have been enough.
“This is especially so after she publicly expressed remorse. The court was crowded. Why don’t they prosecute those that were there as well, including the magistrate?”
