The tragic shooting occurred in Texas area of Sutherland Spring which had a population of less than 700. A local had said that it was indeed a big wound because everyone knew each other in the quiet neighbourhood, which was turned red by the massacre.
Authorities have confirmed that of the killer as Devin Patrick Kelley, a 26-year-old former Air Force personnel, who according to reports had been discharged in 2014 from their Mexican base where he served from 2010. He was said to have been court-martialed for physically assaulting his family in 2012 and was handed a 12-month confinement sentence before being discharged on bad conduct and reduced in rank.
Investigators are yet to link the suspect to any terrorist group and he was found dead in his car after he fled the scene of the shooting with wounds that are not yet clear how he got them. He had been said to have started shooting at the church from outside around 11:20 a.m. with an assault rifle and then went on inside to continue, before he fled.
According to a resume online with his name, he appeared to be working as a security guard at a Texas waterpark and was married at the time of the incident.
