A video of a giant brown snake swallowing whole a black snake that is nearly its size has grabbed the attention of social media users.
The terrifying clip was captured by John Northey, a farmer from north-eastern Victoria, who was reportedly walking his dogs when he came across the bizarre incident. “I have come across several snakes on my property, but I have never seen such a scene,” he says, adding that the slightly bigger reptile had swallowed the other halfway through when he stumbled upon them.
Nick Clemann, a senior scientist with the Department of Environment, reptiles mostly show up during winter because it’s their mating season. “Tiger Snakes and Lowland Copperheads are the most frequently encountered snakes near the coast, while Eastern Brown Snakes are more common in drier areas.”
Most of the snakes are highly venomous and therefore people should be wary of them, especially during this time.
