Just after the backlash from the surprise unveiling of a statue in honor of South African President Jacob Zuma was starting to die down, the Governor of Imo State is set to unveil a statue of Liberia’s iconic leader, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.
In a tweet today, Gov. Rochas Okorocha made it known that the 79 year old President who has been in office since 2006 will be visiting Imo State.

After the cost of Zuma’s statue was revealed to be up to N520m, the whole country were on his case but there are still three other statues that occupy spots at Freedom Square in the State’s capital. One of them is suspected to be of the Liberian visiting president and the plan seems to unveil it in her ‘honor’.
The unveiling of a statue in honor of Sirleaf will most likely not draw as much criticism as that of Zuma drew because, the Liberian icon is hugely respected the world over, she won the 2011 World Peace Prize in recognition of her “non-violent struggle” for the rights of women and participation in politics.
