The Akwa Ibom State police command have arrested 20 suspected cultists in the Onna Local Government Area who are embroiled in a tussle for the mantle of leadership.
According to a revelation by the Police Public Relations Officer of the State, DSP Elkana Bala, the suspects have been linked to numerous criminal activities within the State and their arrest was a result of information gathering and the efforts of the intelligence sector of the Police Command. He said the investigation of some incidents including; rape, armed robbery and kidnapping in other areas (Ukanafun and Etim Ekpo LGAs) had led to the start of fierce investigations of two different cults: Isakaba and Ikpat.
The leader of both cults are older men who lead unsuspecting youths astray like 50 years old Victor Udofia who after confessing to some crimes stated that he is a pastor in a certain church, he leads the Isakaba group while Victor Andrew who is 52 leads the Ikpat cult.
The two cults have been clashing in recent times over the chieftaincy of Ekwere community who currently do not have a ruler currently and they have been terrorizing the innocent indigenes.
DSP Bala told reporters that all 20 suspects will be charged to court soon.
