We have come to the end of our body language series and if you missed any of the entries, the links in the article will help you to catch up.
The fifth of the series is the most important to avoid jumping the gun and embarrassing ourselves and others with overconfidence.
1. Understanding That People Differ.
It is important to note that body language differs from individuals (though there are general ones like tears, smiles and so on), still like the tone of voice, body language in some might be loud while in some it might not be too clear or may mean something else.
2. It Is Complex.
Knowing all at a read is impossible and it takes a long time and constant practice to become an expert to some extent, and also considering people’s social standing and other things we may know about them helps us successfully interpret the message their body may be passing.
3. Cultural Differences.
From place to place the behaviour of people are affected by the cultures in place, like over here since it is deemed disrespectful to look older ones in the eyes, it will be wrong to interpret avoiding eye contact as trying to be evasive. But, some body signs are universal.
4. The Channel Of Understanding Body Languages.
It is in the following process that body languages become less visible and more difficult to read: Kinesics (eye contact, facial expression and body movements) then haptics (touch) and finally proxemics (personal space).
Body languages help people say what they are unable to say and learning to understand them to some extent brings about healthy relationships and successful day to day interactions with people because we are social beings.
