NUT Threatens To Go On Strike In Kaduna State.

The Kaduna State Chapter of the Union wrote an open letter to Gov. Nasiru El-Rufai, giving him two weeks to call off his intended action of sacking 21,780 teachers.

The test that the teachers in Kaduna State could not pass made the internet nearly boil over as Nigerians wondered what the children that had been learning at the Government schools. El- Rufai had said he would sack all those that failed the exam, a number that got as high as 21,780 and replace them with 25,000.

National Union of Teachers has however revealed that though the intention of the Governor was a good one, he reneged on the agreement. The letter signed by the Assistant Secretary General Comrade Adamu Ango and read by the Chairman of the Union Comrade Audu Titus Amba stated:

“That it is agreed by all stakeholders in the educational sector that the pass mark for the competency test be pegged at 60 per cent while those who are unable to score up to 60 per cent be retrained. However, in a classical display of bad faith which started as a rumor, the Kaduna State government unilaterally and arbitrarily pegged the pass mark for the competency test at an unprecedented 75 per cent.”

The letter went on to warn that if the letter the State’s Chapter of the Union wrote to him regarding rescinding the sack action is not followed:

“The Kaduna State Wing of the NUT has no option other than to serve the instant notice in compliance with the wishes of its members expressed at the meeting of the state wing executive council held on the 6th November,  2017“.

The wishes were revealed to be a State wide strike action in all Primary and Secondary schools.
