Last year, various reports were made on the recurring crimes that have perpetuated by unidentified people who use the waterways and canals as an escape route. There was the kidnap of the traditional ruler of Iba Community in Lagos state, His Royal Highness Goriola Oseni and that of three school girls and even the wife of the Deputy Managing Director of the Sun Publishing Limited. The reports would have been more but many in fear of their lives and those of their loved ones chose to keep quiet and pay ransoms without the news coming to light.
The activities of criminals along the water areas that ranged from robbery to kidnapping, rapes and murder have made many who prefer the cool environment that gives relief from the stress of the city to abandon their homes to at least have their lives intact.
