Twitter has said that when Joe Biden takes over the @POTUS account, it will start from zero followers.
The current @POTUS account that the Trump administration runs has 33.2 million followers but Biden will not inherit any of them. Twitter made this clear in a new change of policy.
In 2017, when Trump’s team took over the handle, they inherited all the Obama administration followers without the tweets.

News sources claim that according to statements by Rob Flaherty, Biden’s digital director, the team is not happy with this new direction. Twitter’s new policy will also affect other accounts such as those for the @VP, @FLOTUS, @PressSec, @Cabinet, and @LaCasaBlanca.
Rob Flaherty even mentions that they had tried to change Twitter’s mind on the matter but the social media company remained adamant.
Additionally, the @POTUS account will now be @POTUS46 when Biden’s team take over. Twitter says that while Donald Trump will still have access to his personal @realDonaldTrump account; he will no longer have most of the protections he did while he was president.
