The funny thing is that every day, new information is being added to this treasure trove. What’s more? It doesn’t look like it is anywhere close to coming to an end.
Since the beginning of lockdown, and even now when restrictions are gradually being lifted, people have felt more alone than ever.
What contributed to this? Most likely the fact that people could not physically meet friends and family, take solace from their company and mix more.
People then decided to cope by being more updated, loading themselves up with information, some of it absolutely unnecessary.
If you are one of the people who did this (and you most likely are), then it may be time to take a step back.
While you may want to stay updated on the news and possibly find out what everyone else is doing, it may be too much for you.
There’s mostly bad news on the internet and you don’t need to constantly ingest bad news. This can be debilitating for your mental health.
Instead, be extremely mindful of the things that you consume and protect your mind from decay. Use the steps below to ensure that you are doing the best for your mind:
- Schedule a specific time to log in to social media or to use your phone
- Invest more time into less digital hobbies like gardening or reading
- Reduce the time you spend on your phone
- Have an accountability partner
You are the only one that can protect your mind from mental strain so ensure that you take care of yourself.
In a situation where your hold on your mind is slipping, contact a therapist and find your way back to yourself.
