Governor Samuel Ortom had been hailed by the residents of Benue state, especially by those who dwell in rural communities with available grass lands who have been living in fear of another attack by ‘Herdsmen’ that have been a constant feature in the past months, for signing the Grazing Bill.
The contract affected lands that borders Benue and Nasarawa States and have led to criticism from the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria as it places some measure of restrictions on open grazing activities.
The Governor of Nasarawa State Tanko Al-Makura has urged citizens not to take any drastic actions but instead to continue to go about their normal daily activities as both governments are aware of the dicey situation and are working on a solution that favors both sides. He also counseled that none should jeopardize the delicate peace that exists at the moment.
