The conversation is gaining momentum.
Vanguard Allure is using its voice to speak out against domestic violence. The magazine posted a dramatic photograph that illustrates the damages of the ugly social issue, and on its caption of the photograph, urged victims to speak up about their experience and to report perpetrators to the relevant authorities.
Awareness on domestic violence is getting a lot of traction recently, thanks in part to efforts by some celebrities who have publicly spoken out against the phenomenon. Earlier this year, the whole country was shocked when pictures of a brutalise popular Nollywood actress Mercy Aigbe surface on the internet. What happened? Her now estranged husband, Lanre Gentry so physically mauled her that she needed several stitches at the hospital. A lawsuit was filed and Mercy’s estranged husband rammed into a cell to await trial, though he was subsequently released on a bail. We are still waiting on the final pronouncement on that case.
