The General Secretary of National Union of Textile, Garment and Tailoring Workers (NUTGTW), Issa Aremu has advised the Federal Government to look towards checking on the wages of workers as it could possibly hold the key to helping the economy recover faster from its downslide.
He said that that the recurring crisis among workers that inevitably led to strikes could be eliminated if the workers’ conditions are put into consideration and the inability of states to pay their workers despite the contributions by the FG should be checkmated too.
Comrade Issa also pointed out that the recent 0.55 percent of positive growth is way off the mark if the Government really wanted to meet their goal of 4.6 percent GDP growth that was set for between 2016-2020 in the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP), rounding up with the statement that the growth of economy of a nation rests on the labor productivity both in the private and public sector.
