There is now an expected outcome from the meeting between the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU and the Federal Government of Nigeria over the eight-month strike on Friday 20th November 2020.
According to the Twitter handle of ASUU, the Minister of Labour Chris Ngige presided over the meeting. One of the first outcomes of the negotiation is that the government agreed to use the old platform before the IPPIS to pay all withheld salaries.
The IPPIS or Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) has been one of the major problemms between ASUU and the FG. Some weeks ago, the president of the association, Professor Ogunyemi, had argued that IPPIS was not designed for the university system.
Thus, it resulted in ignoring negotiated agreements like; unacademic allowances, research journal, and other things. Instead, ASUU says its members would prefer the University Transparency Account System (UTAS).

Part of the Friday meeting result was that the FG is testing UTAS for ‘usability’. Additionally, it tweeted: “On revitalization, the government offered N15billion in addition to the N20billion pledged earlier.”
This makes the total, N35 billion out of the N110 billion that ASUU demanded for revitalization, according to a report. On a final note, ASUU has agreed to consult with its council and decide if the strike will be suspended or not.
