According to her lawyer, Yousouf Mohamed, the president “doesn’t want the country to suffer,” and has, therefore, decided to leave.
The development follows an alleged financial scandal involving the president’s use of a credit card belonging to an international charity organisation. Her resignation would take effect from 23 March 2018.
According to L’Express, it alleged that she had bought clothes and jewellery in Italy and Dubai costing about $26,000.00 using a credit card issued by an international non-governmental organization which was founded by an Angolan banker with business interests in Mauritius.
When confronted, the president refused to resign saying she had done nothing wrong.
