A lawmaker representing Kurfi Constituency at the Katsina House of Assembly, Kabir Lawal, made the revelation on the floor of the House on Monday under matters of urgent public importance. He, however, did not provide further details.
“The epidemic has forced authorities of the school to shut down the school and send pupils back home,” he says.
Also speaking, Garba Useini, representing Kafur Constituency, and Bishir Mamnan, representing Dutsin-ma Constituency, claimed that the epidemic affected their constituencies as well. They, however, could not give the number of casualties.
The House faulted the state Science and Technical Education Board for closing down the college and sending the pupils home, saying the act was capable of spreading the disease.
The Speaker, Abubakar Kusada, directed the House committees on education and health to “conduct a thorough investigation” into the incident and report back to the House.
