The growing decay that is the Nigerian education system is becoming something that ‘rot’ will soon not be able to describe if the likes of this story keeps happening without check.
Faith had been a student of the Government Secondary School, Tunga in Niger State until she was impregnated by the Vice Principal of the school, one Mr. Mohammed.
The incident had happened earlier in March and she delivered a baby boy on October 28, after which reporters of PUNCH found her and had discussions with her that revealed that: during the period of her pregnancy, Mohammed had not once given her and her family anything by way of support.
Her father said he regretted sending her to school where the people that should teach her good values are those responsible for damaging her future.
She lamented that she never wanted to be a mother at this early stage of her life but will not let having a child deter her from completing her school as she has reportedly approached the state government for aid in furthering her education because she has dreams of becoming a nurse.
Mohammed had been arrested when the police heard the case earlier this year but was granted a bail of N1m after 3 months in the police custody.
Mrs. Mairam Kolo who is the Director General of the Niger State Child Rights Protection Agency had heard of the case and had approached the ministry of education to give parts of the teacher’s salary to Faith for taking care of the child’s needs.
It was discovered that the Vice Principal has received a transfer away from the school to another place that was not let known to reporters.
