Gitanjali Rao, who is eleven won the $25,000 prize for scientific innovation and creativity. She invented a device that can detect lead in water faster than other test techniques available. She had first intended to use it to help her parents but then saw its usefulness in the world at large.
Lead in water have been a leading cause of death in areas like Flint where she lives and her invention will go a long way in helping other communities too.
