Yemi Alade breaks another YouTube record, gains 1m subscribers

Nigerian Afropop singer Yemi Eberechi Alade, better known as Yemi Alade, has joined the select club of singers with at least one million subscribers on YouTube.

Not only that, in fact, the Johnny singer is the first African female artist reach the milestone of gaining one million subscribers on the video sharing platform.

The singer broke the news on the ‘gram over the weekend to her Instagram family writing:

1st female Entertainer in #Africa to have over #1MILLIONsubscribers on @YouTube. God is the GREATEST, started this journey six years ago. Thanks to everyone streaming/watching my videos and music. God bless us all.”

In a follow-up post on Instagram, the singer also gave a well-deserved shout out to her “super amazing team.”

Other African artists to have reached the milestone previously were male including the likes of P-Square (1.2 million), Davido (1.5 million) and Diamond Platnumz (2.1 million).

Those following the artist closely already knew this is not the first record Yemi has broken on YouTube. Just a few months ago, her single John became the first music video by an African female singer to garner over 100 million views on YouTube and the first Nigerian artist to achieve the feat.
