Warner Bros has announced that Wonder Woman 1984 will be hitting the cinemas on 25th December 2020 and will also be available for streaming on HBO Max same day.
Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman 1984 is arguably the most anticipated action movie of 2020, after its prequel recorded groundbreaking success. The coronavirus pandemic however, has stalled the release of the movie as initially scheduled.
Movie makers are having a generally difficult period as most Cinemas are still shut following the Coronavirus outbreak. Rather than release the films for only streaming, movie makers are choosing to wait until cinemas reopen.
A recent example is the live-action version of Mulan. The movie was released for streaming only and is believed to have lost revenue that it would have earned from cinemas.

Now, Ann Sarnoff, chair and CEO of WarnerMedia Studios and Networks Group says; “As we navigate these unprecedented times, we’ve had to be innovative in keeping our businesses moving forward while continuing to super-serve our fans.
“We realize that a lot of consumers can’t go back to the movies due to the pandemic, so we also want to give them the option to see Wonder Woman 1984 via our HBO Max platform.”
In addition to the restrictions, in places where cinemas have reopened, people are still ‘reluctant’ to leave home. CNBC explains that this is because the cinemas do not have new ‘blockbuster’ films. Production houses are postponing film releases until 2021.
With the 2020 holidays approaching, the bulk of cinemas earnings traditionally come from customers. Thus, Wonder Woman 1984 coming to cinemas on 25th December 2020, Christmas Day, will be a welcome relief.
Perfect day to watch this long delayed masterpiece..
