Following Real Madrid’s loss to Real Betis last night, Barcelona fans who remain (and may forever remain so) archrivals of the Los Blancos have taking to social media to take trolling to greater heights: from compilation of each frustrated move Ronaldo made last night, to a video release of Messi’s goals this season, to equaling the total amount of Real Madrid’s goals this season to Messi’s.
To the outsider, this may look a bit overhyped, but to insiders, we can just laugh along happy we are not in the shoes of the Bernabeu faithful.
Prior to the new season, Real Madrid had clinched the La Liga title and the UEFA Champions League trophy right under the nose of Barcelona because the first had seen Barcelona chase them from second position all the way until the last fixture of the domestic league and yet Real Madrid held on and won it, then they did their rivals one better when they completely destroyed Juventus who knocked Barcelona out of the competition with a humiliating 3-0 aggregate victory. And it was a second consecutive Champions League win.
Barcelona fans knew no rest, eleven winning the Copa Del Rey did nothing to assail their sense of loss but it was just the beginning …
The transfer window was still abuzz with their chase of Liverpool’s Coutinho (a transfer bid which was repeatedly refused and yielded no result in the end) when Paris Saint-Germain out of nowhere snatched up their Brazilian star Neymar.
Hearts were broken, dreams evaporated and the trolls had a filled day but yet it was not the end of their woes as they faced Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup they watched their team get shot down in both legs with Asensio scoring against them in the second leg even after Ronaldo was banned.
The new season was viewed with apprehension and the signing of 29 year old Paulinho was no relief to the fans, but then it kept happening, wins after wins after wins and the light returned but over at the Los Blancos camp, it looked an eclipse. The fans remembered and turned every wit in their arsenal to ensure the rival fans felt the heat as much as they had felt it.
It seems it is getting through as Zidane has come to the media to call for calm and Casemiro is also urging the players not to lose their heads.
The season is young and Real Madrid can definitely turn things around but for a while, COME ON YOU TROLLS!
