Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo has won the goal of the tournament for the 2018/2019 Champions League, Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) says.
Ronaldo beat Lionel Messi and others to win the best goal award, which was picked by a technical committee of UEFA for his strike against former club Manchester United in the group stage of the competition. Liverpool would go on to win the competition after beating fellow Premiership side, Tottenham, at the final played in Madrid on Saturday night.
Ronaldo’s goal beat Lionel Messi’s free-kick against Liverpool and Sadio Mane’s chipped effort against Bayern Munich.
The goal, as well as the top ten for the competition, was picked by a group of technical observers that had the likes of former Manchester United manager David Moyes, current England Boss Gareth Southgate, Belgium Boss Roberto Martinez and Real Madrid legend Raul Gonzalez.
Last season, the Portuguese also won the award for his volley for Real Madrid against Juventus.
